First steps at the University

Welcome to the University of Iceland! Whether you are beginning your university studies or joining us from another institution, there are many things to consider. Here is a list of a few important steps to get you started:

  1. Set up your Username and Password
If you haven't already, you should issue your Username and password in the Application Portal. Your username includes an email address you should check regularly for all school notifications.

    Use of HI email

For authentication purposes, it is important to use your HI email address when communicating with the University of Iceland.

  2. Orientation
The University hosts Orientation days in the autumn at the start of the academic year. Each faculty also offers fresher presentations for their students.
  3. Timetable and syllabus
  4. Course Registration
    • You can change your course registration in Ugla during the first days of each semester. Important dates regarding this are listed in the UI academic calendar.
    • Note that it may take up to 24 hours for timetable updates to reflect changes.
  5. Textbooks
  6. Find your Classrooms
Classroom locations are indicated in the timetable by building abbreviations and room numbers. You can find building locations and floor plans on the UI website.
  7. Student associations
The Student Council's website lists all student associations and provides information on student rights.
  8. The Student Counselling Centre offers academic and career counselling, disability services, psychological services and more.
