Apply for graduate studies

Applications for graduate studies are accepted twice a year, in spring and autumn, through the University of Iceland Application Portal. The required supporting documents differ between programmes, and only applications accompanied by the necessary documents will be processed.

As admission requirements vary from one programme to another, applicants are encouraged to review them carefully on the relevant programme pages in the Course Catalogue and on each programme’s information page.

Students completing an undergraduate degree may apply for graduate studies for the following semester, subject to graduation.

Students who have completed their undergraduate studies at the University of Iceland do not need to submit a copy of their diploma.

Application deadlines

For studies beginning in the autumn semester:

Applications open on University Day, held annually in late February or early March.

The application deadline is 15 April.

All supporting documents must be submitted no later than 22 April.

For studies beginning in the spring semester:

Applications open 15 September.

The application deadline is 15 October.

All supporting documents must be submitted no later than 22 October.

Admission in the spring semester is only available for a selection of programmes. The programmes open for application are listed in the Application Portal and in the overview of available study programmes.
