You can change your course enrolment in Ugla during the advertised enrolment periods. Enrolling in a course also constitutes enrolment in the course examination.

How do I change my course enrolment?
When changes are open, a banner appears on the Ugla home page.
- Log in to Ugla.
- Open the enrolment page from the home page.
- Enrol in or withdraw from courses.
- Save the changes.
- Under My Ugla – My Courses, check whether the changes have been registered.
It may take several hours for changes to appear in the timetable.
When enrolling in Ugla, you will receive suggestions for courses based on your year of study and the courses you have completed in your study record. In this context, it is also important to review your study programme carefully in the Course Catalogue. There you will find an overview of mandatory and elective courses by year of study, as well as information about course prerequisites. Prerequisites specify what must be completed before taking a course, so it is important to bear them in mind when planning your studies. If you need assistance with study planning, you can speak to your department or a student counsellor
- mandatory courses (S): You must complete all compulsory courses in the study programme.
- Restricted electives (B): You choose a specified number of courses or credits from a defined group.
- Free elective courses (V): You choose courses according to the rules that apply to the study programme.

Go to My Ugla – My Courses. If withdrawal is still open, an icon will appear next to the course which you can use to withdraw from it.

When you enrol in a course, you are also enrolled in the course examination.
If you withdraw from the course before the deadline, your examination enrolment will also be cancelled. Once the withdrawal deadline has passed, it is not possible to withdraw from the examination. If you do not attend, you will be registered as absent, which is equivalent to failing.
Send the Student Registration email from your University of Iceland email address to nemskra@hi.is.
Include the following in your request:
- name;
- national ID number;
- course name;
- course number.
The resit examination fee is non-refundable.
You generally do not need to enrol separately in a mid-term examination unless the teacher states otherwise.
Mid-term examinations in courses offered by the Department of Psychology are an exception to this.
If you cannot change your enrolment yourself during the advertised enrolment period, send Student Registration a request from your University of Iceland email address to nemskra@hi.is.
Include your name, national ID number, and the name and number of the course. In some cases, you will also need the department's approval for the enrolment.
You can enrol in distance learning if the course is offered through distance learning according to the Course Catalogue.
Enrolment takes place under My Ugla – My Courses.
- Full-time study generally consists of 30 ECTS credits per semester.
- You can enrol in up to 40 ECTS credits per semester.
- If you wish to take more credits, you must apply to your department.
