Transfer or reset the multi-factor authentication method

Authentication methods will need to be transferred once users change phones or phone numbers.

The authentication method can be transferred if the user still has access to the old authentication method or it can be reset using electronic ID (Ísland.is) if the method is no longer available.

If you do not have an electronic ID then bring a passport or a driver's licence to the IT help desk in the University Center (Háskólatorg).

Reset the authentication methods
  1. Open lykilord.menntasky.is in a browser and login using electronic ID.
  2. Select "Reset" under "Two-factor authentication".
  3. Now select Reset two-factor authentication.
  4. Select "Háskóli Íslands" and then click on "Reset".

The multi-factor authentication can now be set up again.

Transfer the authentication method

If the old authentication method is still accessible or if there is more than one authentication method set up then it is possible to transfer the authentication by doing the following:

  1. Login to mfa.hi.is with the university account.
If a secondary authentication method is set up then select "I can't use my... [default method]" and finish logging in:
