Getting and setting up Save Exam Browser (SEB) for locked Inspera exams

SEB.pngTo take a locked (closed-book) Inspera exam, students must install Safe Exam Browser (SEB) on the device they intend to use for the examination. Inspera uses Safe Exam Browser (SEB) to place the device into exam mode. During the exam, students can work only within the exam environment and access only those resources explicitly permitted by the teacher.

If a student is unsure whether their computer meets the requirements for running a locked Inspera exam (using SEB), detailed technical information can be found here: System Requirements for SEB on the Inspera website.

IMPORTANT: In all cases, SEB must be installed through the Inspera Demo test!

This helps ensure that the correct version of Safe Exam Browser (SEB) is installed and reduces the risk of technical issues during the examination.

Installing SEB on PC's running the Windows operating system

  1. Start by opening a standard web browser (e.g., Safari, Firefox, or Chrome).
  2. Navigate to https://hi.inspera.com
  3. Click „Innskráning með Uglu netfangi"
  4. Sign in using the same email address and password that you use to access Ugla.
  5. Click "Demo tests". The screen shown below should then appear.

  9. Once the download is complete, open the computer's "Downloads" folder, double-click the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions to install Safe Exam Browser (SEB).
  10. Repeat Steps 1–6 above, then click “Start test in Safe Exam Browser.”
    • Note: At this stage, you may see the message "Your browser is not correct. This test requires Safe Exam Browser or Chrome Kiosk App" This is expected and simply indicates that the exam has not yet been opened in a locked environment, e.g. in Safe Exam Browser (SEB).

  11. Repeat Steps 1–6 above, then click “Start test in Safe Exam Browser.

If, instead of "Start test in Safe Exam Browser," you see "Download latest supported version," you will need to update Safe Exam Browser (SEB). Like other software, SEB must be updated periodically. Instructions about updating SEB can be found here: Ugla-Install the correct (update) Safe Exam Browser.

IMPORTANT: In all cases, SEB must be installed through the Inspera Demo test!

This helps ensure that the correct version of Safe Exam Browser (SEB) is installed and reduces the risk of technical issues during the examination.

Common SEB issues and troubleshooting guidance can be found on the following page: Solutions to common problems in Inspera (SEB)
