Final Project

Students need to register for the final project like other courses. See Course and Exam Registration

Rules regarding the final project may vary between faculties and departments, so it is best to consult them for detailed information. Students are responsible for familiarising themselves with the department’s rules and deadlines for submitting their thesis or final project.

Contact student services in your faculty for guidance on choosing a supervisor.

HI Student Counselling offers courses for undergraduate students beginning their final project work. Information about these courses will be posted on this page once available.

Centre for Writing– Assistance and Helpful Advice
At The Centre for Writing, students from all faculties can book consultation appointments and receive helpful advice on various aspects of academic theses, reports, and other written assignments, especially regarding the formatting of final projects. The Centre for Writing website also provides guidelines on bibliographies.
Templates

The website honnun.hi.is offers cover templates for bachelor's and master's theses across all faculties of the University. Please ensure you save the file to your computer before opening it. The file will not work if opened in a browser; it must be opened in the Acrobat Reader programme.

On the faculty websites in Ugla, you can find templates for the finishing touches on final projects and theses.

Turnitin

The University of Iceland uses the Turnitin programme to prevent plagiarism. In Turnitin, you can upload a text document, e.g., a student's final project. The programme compares the text with a large database of sources. The result shows whether sources and citations are handled correctly or if there is an unusually high similarity to works by other authors.

Instructions for using the programme can be found in the Course catalogue and via the website turnitin.hi.is.

Submitting the Final Project

To complete the submission, you need to:

  • Submit an electronic copy of the final thesis to Skemman.is along with a declaration on the handling of the final project.
  • Submit an electronic copy of the final thesis to the final project submission folder on Canvas.
  • When confirmation is received from Skemman by email, also submit it to the submission folder on Canvas.

Please note that it may take 1–2 days from when the thesis is sent to Skemman until confirmation is received. This is taken into account in the Canvas submission deadline.

More detailed instructions on submitting to Skemman can be found in the Skemman Guide.
