Notifications in Teams

There are multiple ways to access and manage notifications in Teams. Here's how to set notifications in general and how to set notifications from individual channels in Teams.

Notifications in general
  1. Click on the three dots in the top right-hand corner and choose "Settings":
  2. Here you can set when and how you get notifications.
    • Activity: You will receive a notification in the "Activity" tab located in the top left-hand corner of Teams
    • Banner: You will be notified with a pop-up (banner) on your computer.
    • Off: You will not get any notification.
    • Missed activity email: If you have unseen notifications you can have them sent by email.notifications 1.png
Notifications from channels
  1. Click the three dots next to the channel's name for which you want to set notifications and click "Channel notifications":notifications 2.png
  2. Choose where and how you would like to receive notifications for the channel.
    • All new posts: When someone creates a new post. You can also include all replies.
    • Channel mentions: This is when someone tags the channel (fx, @General).notifications 3.png
Turning off notifications on smart devices at certain times

You can customise when you receive notifications from the Teams app:

  1. Open the Teams app. Tap on the profile picture in the top left corner and open "Notifications".
  2. Tap on "Block during quiet hours": quiet time teams 1.png
  3. Here you can set:
    • Certain hours: Choose at which time notifications are blocked.
    • All days: Choose which days notifications are blocked.
    • Set on Teams and Outlook: Sync the time notifications are blocked for the account with Outlook.

Customise notifications on Samsung devices

On recent Samsung devices you may need to activate a setting within the operating system to be able to customise the Teams notifications:

  1. Open "Settings"→ "Notifications" → "Advanced settings":Samsung notifications 1.png
  2. Turn on "Manage notification categories for each app":Samsung notifications 2.png
  3. Now the option for "Notification categories" will appear underneath the Teams notification settings:Samsung notifications 3.png
