Teams voicemail

You can record a custom voicemail greeting in Teams. Please note that UI has a default greeting in Icelandic that staff cannot remove themselves, and Teams plays a greeting in English that cannot be removed. We recommend that as many people as possible use the University Voicemail greeting, but if it is necessary to have another greeting, you can follow these instructions. Your greeting will be played between the default Icelandic greeting and the English greeting. You can send an email to help@hi.is if you want to remove the default Icelandic greeting, but unfortunately it is currently not possible to remove the English greeting.

Record a voicemail

  1. Click on the three dots (...) in the top right corner and select "Settings".
  2. Select "Calls" on the menu on the left and locate the section called "Manage voicemail"
  3. Now it's time to record a voicemail greeting. Select "Record a greeting". A voice will guide you throught the process:voicemail 1.png
  4. Press 1 to record a personal greeting. If you press 2 then you will record a voicemail message that plays when you are marked as out of office in Teams/Outlook:voicemail 2.png
  5. Press 1 to record the message. Once you have finished the message press #.
  6. If you are happy with the message press 1 otherwise press 2 to re-record the message.
  7. Press the star* symbol to close the window.

Your message should now play when you have the voicemail enabled.

Voicemail settings

Below the recording button you can change other voicemail settings like for example:

  • Language: It's best to leave this at the default setting or choose English as Icelandic is not available.
  • Redirect: Here you can choose what happens when the call is redirected to voicemail.
  • Text to speech message: A comma will appear by default. The comma prevents your name from being read with an English accent when there is no custom message enabled.voicemail 3.png

Out of Office voicemail settings

Navigate to the section "Manage out-of-office voicemail" to change the out-of-office voicemail settings.

You can choose when the out of office message plays:

  • All the time.
  • When Outlook automatic replies are on.
  • When you have an out-of-office event on your calendar.

Typing a comma (,) into the custom greeting will prevent the voice from reading your name with an English accent when you dont have an out of office message recorded and enabled.voicemail 4.png
