Students and staff of the University of Iceland can get access to ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Pro for Windows.
ArcGIS is used to analyze and process geographical information.
Installation and access
An ArcGIS Online account is used to download and activate ArcGIS Pro. If the user has not been issued an ArcGIS Online then they will need to contact the course instructor.
- Open ArcGIS Online and sign in with the assigned username.
- Click on the profile picture in the top right corner and open "My settings:
- Go to "Licenses" and download ArcGIS Pro:
- Run the ArcGIS Pro file. Select a location for the setup file or/and click "Next":
- Keep "Launch the setup program" selected and click on "Close":
- Click "Next":
- Click "Next" again:
- Agree to the terms and click "Next":
- Keep "Anyone who uses this computer (All users)" selected and click on "Next":
Some users have run into problems when "Only for me" was selected. - Here you can select where ArcGIS Pro is installed, click "Next":
- Click on "Install":
- Keep "Run ArcGIS Pro now" selected and click on "Finish":
- This window will appear the first time ArcGIS is opened. Sign in with the assigned username:
- ArcGIS Pro should now be activated.
It should not be necessary to renew the licence since the account should now handle it as long as it is signed in.
Renewing the license
An ArcGIS Online account is used to activate ArcGIS Pro. If the user has not been issued an ArcGIS Online then they will need to contact the course instructor.
- Open "Settings" within ArcGIS Pro. Select the "Licensing" tab and select "Configure your licensing options":
- Choose "Named User Licence". Have "ArcGIS Online" selected and click "OK":
- You may be asked to sign in to your ArcGIS Online account however you might also not need to if you are already signed in through the browser.
The licence should now be activated. It should not be necessary to renew the licence again since the account should now handle it as long as it is signed in.
