Printing and scanning - Students

Students who have bought print credits can print in most computer labs in the University of Iceland.

You can buy or keep track of your print credits through Ugla under IT Services → Print credits. You can also buy print credits at the Service Desk in Háskólatorg.

  • The University has a special print quota that counts toward credits. You can find the price in Ugla.
  • Each page in black and white is 1 credit
  • Each colour page is 5 credits
  • Printing on both sides:
    •  black and white is 2 credits
    •  colour is 10 credits

Please note that print credits are only active during your studies, and unused credits will not be refunded.

Printed pages will subtract from your print credits in real-time.

Photocopy

A photocopier is available at the National and University Library. You can buy a photocopying card from the service desk on the second floor.

You can also pay for general printing services at Háskólaprent, Fálkagata 2.

Another option is to use a scanner in a computer lab to send scanned pages to your email, and then use your print credits to print them.

Scanning

Scanners are located in the computer labs in Askja 166, Gimi 136a, Oddi 102, and VRII-260.

Note that scanning is free.

Colour printing

The computer labs in Askja 166 and Gimli 136a have colour printers.

If only part of the document is in colour, we recommend printing the black-and-white pages first, then manually selecting the colour pages to save on print credits.

Common issues

Why is my print credit lower than I thought?
  • If you have not used the printing for a long time, it could be because the previous printing system did not update the subtracted pages until after midnight. That would sometimes result in users printing more pages than they had credit for.
  • If you forgot to log out of the computer lab, someone else may have printed pages on your account.
    • If you have a document open, the computer will ask whether you want to close or save it before fully logging you out.
  • If you are sure you didn't forget to log out and you suspect someone knows about your account information, you should change your password immediately in Ugla → Settings → Change password.
Why can't I print?

There can be several reasons why you can't print:

  • Check how much print credit you have left.
  • Check if the printer shows an error message; there should be an exclamation point on the screen. You can follow the on-screen instructions or report the error through the IT Service Portal.
  • If you have print credits and there is no error message on the printer screen, then contact the IT department through the Service Portal.
Error on printer / Printer out of order
If the printer is missing ink or paper, or if an error appears, it is best to contact the Division of IT. If a print job fails, you can request a refund of units from the Division of IT by presenting the faulty printed pages.
