Conference network

If conference guests need access to the wireless network during conferences, then applying for a conference network is recommended.

For teaching a course, you should apply for a username for each student and use the wireless network "Eduroam".

Application for the conference network

Only university employees can book a conference network. Third parties must book the conference network through their contact at the University of Iceland.

Keep the following in mind when filling out the application:

  • If the conference net needs to be activated in more than one building, then note it in the comment, also write down how the number of people is split between the buildings.
  • When connecting through HInet you must follow the Acceptable Use Policy.
  • When wireless conference networks are activated/established, all wireless networks in the relevant building are restarted, which causes network connection disruption. As a result, wireless conference networks are NOT established/activated except at the following times:
    • In the morning between 05:00 and 08:00
    • For lunch between 12:00 and 13:00
    • And between 16:00 and 24:00

The conference network can not be open for more than 5 consecutive days.

Conference guests need to be 10 or more. If the number of guests is fewer than 10, then it is better to apply for temporary access to wireless connection and computer labs for each user.

Where is the conference network available?

What is the price of the connection?

The price can be seen on the IT Division price list.

How do I connect to the conference network?

All conference networks have the name (SSID) "Conference", the password (WPA2) is handed to the person who applied for the net. We recommend advertising the password for conference attendees where they are the only ones to see it (email or note in the conference room for example).

Temporary access to wireless connection and computer labs

Employees can apply for temporary access to WiFi (Eduroam) and computer labs for guests and devices that need temporary access.
Applying for an account with Microsoft 365 (Office) access and without is possible. The application page is in Ugla under IT services →  Applications. The applicant's department pays for the temporary access.

  • You need to register each person's name, email address, and how many days the accounts need to stay open.
  • Print or write down usernames and passwords when they appear on the screen because that is the only time you will see them. This information is not sent by email.
  • The temporary access does not allow the user to print out documents.
  • It takes one hour for the Microsoft 365 (Office) licence to activate after the application has been sent.
