Student bus pass and other transportation

The University of Iceland encourages its students and staff members to utilize sustainable transportation methods when travelling to and from the university campus, whether by bicycle, electric scooter, bus or walking.

Student bus discount (Strætó)

University Students in Iceland can purchase bus passes with a student discount. Instructions on activating the discount and purchasing can be found on Klappið's website

Students in regional Iceland are advised to seek information on Strætó's website.

Bus discount for international students

International students without an eID must have their discount activated manually. Students with a kennitala (Icelandic ID number) can skip step 1:

  1. If you are an exchange student without a kennitala you must first contact the University Centre Service Desk with your student ID number.
  2. Go to your Ugla access settings and permit Strætó to get a confirmation of your active studies.
  3. Go to klappid.is and register on "My pages" using your phone number and link it with the app (if you plan to use the app rather than a physical Klapp card)
  4. Once you have finished steps 2 and 3, you can email klappid@klappid.is or call 5402700
    • State your student ID (or kennitala if you have it)
    • Provide the phone number you used for step 3
    • Request that they activate the student discount for you.
  5. Once they have manually added your discount, you can log in to My pages on Klappid.is and proceed with the purchase.
