Students have various options for studying on campus outside of class hours. These facilities include open reading areas, closed spaces designated for UI students only, and special areas for group work. Additionally, there are several computer labs available across the campus.
Reading Areas
In the National and University Library of Iceland, there are around 400 seats at tables, along with numerous seats at computers, reading machines, and in the music and media department. Group work rooms are also available on the 3rd and 4th floors. Additionally, some study desks are designated for students in other university libraries.
In Gimli, there are good study facilities for students.
Open reading areas and group work tables are scattered across campus, such as in Oddi, Gimli, Askja, and Háskólatorg.
In some faculties, master's and doctoral students can apply for dedicated study spaces on campus, though availability is limited, and it is best to contact their faculty for information.
Group Work
Students can book a classroom for group work once a week for up to three hours free of charge. For bookings beyond three hours a week, students must pay for the entire duration.
Note that requests for rooms must be submitted during regular working hours and with at least 4 hours' notice. The form must include:
- The hi-email address of the student booking the room (if not logged in)
- name and number of the course in the description.
In addition to classroom bookings, group work rooms are available on the 3rd and 4th floors of the National and University Library of Iceland.
