Students at the University of Iceland who cannot change their name with the Registers Iceland can request a name change within the university to align with their gender identity.
Students should contact the Student Counselling Centre, located on the third floor of Háskólatorg. Appointments can be booked online or by calling 525 4315.
How does it work if I have one name registered at school and another with Registers Iceland?
Classmates and teachers will see the name registered within the university, and your student card will reflect this name. Official documents like certificates and transcripts will use the Registers Iceland name. If you graduate without a name change at Registers Iceland, your diploma will be issued in your registered name; however, the preferred name will be on the envelope you receive at the graduation ceremony, and that name will be read out.
Will I get a new university email?
With a name change, you can request to have your email address updated to reflect your chosen name.
