The University of Iceland offers classrooms and auditoriums for rent for various events.
Booking periods
Most classrooms at the University of Iceland (UI) can be rented, but UI faculties have priority when booking. As a result, bookings may be subject to limitations.
- Bookings for the spring semester can be made starting 20 December.
- Bookings for the autumn semester can be made starting 20 August.
All booking inquiries must be made with a few days' notice.
To request a classroom booking, you need to fill out the appropriate form:
Ceremonial Hall
The Ceremonial Hall in the University Main Building (Aðalbygging) is not rented to parties outside the University of Iceland.
The base fee is ISK 40,500 for the first two hours of rental. Additional hours are ISK 13,800 per hour after that.
Rental fees always apply for use of the Ceremonial Hall.
Litla Torg Hall
UI staff and related institutions may rent Litla Torg Hall for private gatherings, per specific rules.
- The hall is available until 9:00 PM on weekdays and 5:00 PM on Saturdays. If rental is required outside the building's opening hours, a fee will be charged for opening and closing the building.
- Rental fees:
- Up to 4 hours: ISK 40,000
- Up to 8 hours: ISK 80,000
- Catering: All food and beverages must be purchased from Háma, which holds the catering license for the premises.
- The renter is responsible for cleaning and tidying the hall after use. Property management can assist in arranging a cleaning contractor if requested. A supervisor or security officer appointed by UI's service provider will inspect the premises at the end of the rental period.
FAQs on Classroom Bookings
Department or faculty offices manage bookings for regular courses as per the timetable, as well as occasional meetings for departments, student associations, and UI institutions.
The fee schedule for classrooms can be found on the UI website.
No payment is required for certain meetings, such as departmental meetings, committee meetings, and educational events related to faculty or departmental operations.
However, payment is required for supervisor assistance during or after such meetings.
These meetings must:
- occur no more than once a week
- take place in one classroom or meeting room
- last no more than three hours
If multiple rooms are booked for the same event in the same week, fees apply to all bookings.
