The University of Iceland offers classrooms and auditoriums for rent for various events.
Booking periods
Most classrooms at the University of Iceland (UI) can be rented, but UI faculties have priority when booking. Therefore, bookings may be subject to limitations.
- Bookings for the spring semester can be made from 20 December.
- Bookings for the autumn semester can be made from 20 August.
All booking inquiries must be submitted with at least 2-3 working days' notice.
Preparation and tidy-up are included in the booking and must be scheduled within the booked hours.
Please note that it is not possible to book classrooms or halls during the exam period. The exam dates can be found in the Academic Calendar.
Useful information before you book
The Ceremonial Hall
The Ceremonial Hall (Aula) in the Main Building is only rented to UI staff.
The base fee is ISK 40,500 for the first two hours of rental. Additional hours are ISK 13,800.
Litla Torg Hall
UI staff and related institutions may rent Litla Torg for private gatherings.
- The hall is available until 9:00 PM on weekdays and 5:00 PM on Saturdays. If rental is required outside the building's opening hours, a fee will be charged for opening and closing the building.
- Rental fees:
- Up to 4 hours: ISK 40,000
- Up to 8 hours: ISK 80,000
- Catering must be purchased from Háma, which holds the catering license.
- The renter is responsible for tidying up and cleaning the hall. Facilities Management can help arrange cleaning staff if needed.

Students can book a room once per week, on weekdays, for up to three hours for group study (joint assignments)
The description in the booking request must include:
- names of the group members
- course title and number
Student Associations and other student groups at the University of Iceland
Presidents of student associations and other groups can book rooms on behalf of their organisation. Each association may book one classroom or meeting room per week, free of charge, for up to three hours on weekdays. If meetings are longer or booked more often, the full rental fee applies.

Outlook Booking
Students can book one space (HT-118) on the first floor of Háskólatorg through Outlook.
People outside the University of Iceland can request to book classrooms.

A booking request is not a confirmed booking and will only be valid once a confirmation has been received.
FAQs on Classroom Bookings
Department or faculty offices manage bookings for regular courses according to the timetable, as well as occasional meetings for UI departments.
Information about rooms and seating capacity can be found on the University of Iceland website under Classrooms and number of seats.
No payment is required for certain meetings, such as departmental meetings, committee meetings, and educational events related to faculty or departmental operations.
However, payment is required for supervisor assistance during or after such meetings.
These meetings must:
- occur no more than once a week
- take place in one classroom or meeting room
- last no more than three hours
If multiple rooms are booked for the same event in the same week, fees apply to all bookings.
University of Iceland staff can request streaming services through Ugla.
External organisers who need streaming services should contact Exton or Luxor, external service providers that offer event services, including streaming.
For catering at the University Centre (Háskólatorg), contact Háma. Menus and ordering forms are available on the FS website.
For catering in Veröld, contact Soup Station.
For catering in Edda, contact Ýmir.
In other buildings, you are free to use outside catering services.
