The following information only applies to final exams.
For mid-term examinations, please consult your teacher for instructions.*
How to report illness
If you become ill and consequently cannot sit the examinations, you must do the following:
Send a notification of your illness via email to nemskra@hi.is.
-
You must send the email from your hi email address within three days of the exam date, and include the following:
- Name
- ID number
- Course number
- Course title
* For midterm exams, departments may require a doctor's note, which you must submit to the department office or to the relevant teacher.
Please keep the following in mind:
- You need to send an email for each exam you missed because of illness.
- It's not necessary to submit a doctor's note for final exams.
- The same process applies if your child falls ill.
- You register for a makeup exam by clicking on the blue banner on the front page of Ugla 1-2 days after you report illness. Please complete this as soon as possible to avoid scheduling conflicts in the makeup exams.
If you have any trouble registering that way, please get in touch with Student Registration right away.
If you need to unregister from a makeup exam, you can do so within 24 hours of the exam timetable appearing in Ugla. You send the withdrawal in the same manner as the notification of illness stated above.
If a student becomes ill in the examination room during an exam, they must do the following:
- Raise their hand to speak with an invigilator.
- The invigilator adds a note about the illness on the exam paper.
- If the exam is digital, the invigilator notes about the illness on the attendance and submission list.
The student must also report the illness on the same day by sending an email to the Student Registry, as described above.
The makeup exams for the autumn semester take place in the last few days before Christmas and the first few days after New Year's, with the exam date determined by the original exam date.
Makeup exams for the spring semester take place over a four- to five-day period at the end of May or the beginning of June, determined by the original exam date.
You can view the exact dates once confirmed in the UI Academic Calendar.
