Data storage

There are several ways to store data at the University of Iceland. OneDrive is for individual data, Teams/SharePoint is a storage area created for groups, and IREI is for research data.

OneDrive and Teams/SharePoint are included with the Microsoft 365 (Office) package and can also be accessed through the web at onedrive.hi.is, teams.hi.is and sharepoint.hi.is.

  • All University of Iceland users have access to OneDrive cloud storage. The space each user receives is 1TB (1.000 GB).

  • Each group in Teams/SharePoint gets 25TB (25.000GB) of storage. Teams files can be accessed through the desktop.

We recommend that OneDrive be used through the web in classrooms. F11 will make the document cover the entire screen, the document can also be opened through the app.

You can find instructional videos for OneDrive on the Microsoft website (choose work or school) and information on the OneDrive symbols.

It is possible to apply for access to IREI for research purposes, as it offers Icelandic universities and state-run research institutions access to a powerful infrastructure core.
