About the Microsoft 365 enviroment

The Microsoft 365 environment offers a wide range of software solutions to simplify communication and work for all users at the University of Iceland.

The solution that most users will come to know is the Microsoft 365 (Office) software package. The package consists of standalone apps that are also available through the browser:

  • Word: Word processing.
  • Excel: Spreadsheets.
  • PowerPoint: Slide presentation.
  • OneDrive: Data storage.
  • Outlook: Email client and mail server.
  • OneNote: Notes.
  • Teams: Groupware, where you make collaborative groups, work on projects, chat, share files or have meetings.
  • Access (Only on Windows): Database management.
  • Publisher (Only on Windows): Used to make printable publications (will be discontinued on 08.26).

Other software is available, such as standalone software, browser apps, and extensions for Teams.

Here is a brief overview of the main ones, but Microsoft has prepared a training Center where they go over the software in detail:

  • Azure: A site where students can get Microsoft software for free or with a discount.
  • ClipChamp: Video editing software available through a browser or as a standalone app for Windows.

  • Loop: A collaboration tool that enables teams to create and share content in real-time across Microsoft 365 applications.
  • Microsoft Bookings (Only for staff):  Used to create booking pages.
