Wired internet connection

A MAC address is in fact the ID of your computer online. The University's network system needs to recognize a computer or the ID of a computer's network card before it can connect on campus. Therefore you need to register the computer before it can go online on the wired network.

Here you can find instructions on how to find your ethernet MAC address and register it into Ugla so that you can connect your computer to the internet with an ethernet cable.

  1. Open the Start menu by pressing the Windows button on the keyboard or go down to the left bottom corner and click the Windows logo.

Common issues

  • After the application for a wired connection has been sent, you may need to wait up to 30 minutes untill the computer can connect to the internet.
  • Often it works to restart the computer.
  • Disconnect from the wireless internet (Wi-Fi).
  • If connected to a VPN then disconnect it.
  • Please note that computers, docks and external ethernet cards all have different MAC addresses so you need to plug the ethernet cable into the ethernet port (network card) that was registered in the application, or apply for multiple wired connections.
  • Check if the light next to the ethernet port on the device is on. If not then that can be a sign that the wall port is not active. You can try other ports on the wall or a port that you know that works. If no port is active or if there is no extra port available then contact the IT Division through the Service Portal with the name of the port and the location.
