IREI

About IREI

The purpose of the Icelandic Research e-Infrastructure (IREI) project is to build a powerful, scalable and unified IT platform for scientific work (e-science) in Iceland, a platform needed by active research groups in Icelandic universities and research institutions.

The IREI is built on four service supports: consultancy, storage, processing power and sharing.

Who can receive access?

IHPC/IREI is available for Icelandic universities and government-run research institutions. Independent researchers can also receive access if their research is funded with public grants.

There are two ways to apply for access: by collaborating through an infrastructure fund or having your supervisor/instructor submit a formal application through the UI service portal.

An application must include information about the project, an estimation of when the project will be finished and what software or systems are necessary to finish the project.

The length of the access can not exceed three years. Once the access is about to run out, your supervisor can request a renewal. Foreign institutes can receive access for up to 6 months if they are collaborating with Icelandic research institutions.

The steering committee will review each application.
