First Steps in Employment

At the start of employment, each school or work unit welcomes its staff and introduces them to their work environment and co-workers. In welcoming new employees, there are many things to consider. Here is a brief summary of the main things to have in mind:

  • One of the first steps in employment is acquiring a staff ID card. Employees provide their own picture for their ID card, or the next administrator calls for a photo shoot with the university's photographer. The ID is then printed and delivered by the Head of Property Management
  • Supervisors make sure that a username for UI's system is allocated to new employees and that they are admitted access to those systems and documents important for work-related activities.
  • Employees are responsible for making themselves apparent in UI’s phonebook. This is done by registering information in My Ugla – Settings – About me. It is important to register accurate and detailed information.
  • The HR Division regularly offers special introductory meetings for new UI staff, where they are welcomed and offered a lecture on the general operation of the school, their rights and duties. Similar introductory meetings are offered in English to foreign staff. Other general lectures for staff are registered in Uglan (Home – Forum – Events) at the beginning of every semester.
  • For those who are entering into teaching, you can find support for things related to teaching in Setberg, the House of Teaching

Your immediate supervisor informs you of where and when you should arrive. Information on all UI buildings and their location can be found on the University’s website

Staff break rooms can be found in all UI buildings and are usually located close to the staff facilities. You can ask your immediate supervisor or colleagues for instructions on which break room is most convenient to use. Food services can be found in a few places on the University campus.

On the University’s website you can look up staff in the phonebook
