If conference guests need to have access to the wireless network during conferences then it is recommended to apply for a conference net.
In the case of teaching or a course, you should apply for a user name for each student and use the wireless network "Eduroam".
Application for conference net
Only employees of the university can book a conference net. Third parties need to book the conference net through their contact at the University of Iceland.
Keep the following in mind when filling out the application:
- If the conference net needs to be activated in more then one building then note it in the comment, also write down how the number of people is split between the buildings.

When connecting through HInet you must follow the Acceptable Use Policy.
- When wireless conference networks are activated/established, all wireless networks in the relevant building are restarted and this causes network connection disruption. As a result, wireless conference networks are NOT established/activated except at the following times:
- In the morning between 05:00 and 08:00
- For lunch between 12:00 and 13:00
- And between 16:00 and 24:00
The conference net is not open for more than 5 consecutive days.
Conference guests need to be 10 or more. If guests are fewer then 10 then it is better to apply for temporary access to wireless connection and computer labs for each individual user.

The conference net is only activated in the buildings where the conference is being held.
What is the price of the connection?
The price can be seen on the IT Division price list.
- No extra service is included for the guests unless an agreement has been made beforehand.
- If conference speakers need access to the computers then the responsible party should apply for temporary access to wireless connection and computer labs.
How do I connect to the conference net?
All conference networks have the name (SSID) "Conference", the password is handed to the person who applied for the net. We recommend advertising the password for conference attendees where they are the only ones to see it (email or note in the conference room fx.).
Temporary access to wireless connection and computer labs
The department of the applicant pays for the temporary access. The application page is found in Ugla under IT services → Applications → Temporary access to wireless connection and computer labs.
- You need to register the name and email addresses of each person and how many days the accounts need to stay open.
- Note: Print or write down usernames and passwords when they appear on the screen because that is the only time you will see them. This information is NOT sent by email.
- Note: The temporary access does not allow the user to print out documents nor does it give access to Microsoft 365 (Office).
