Student card

The student card is an ID card for students within the university community and with it you can get student discounts with many businesses all over the country. Information about discounts can be found on the student council's website.

You can apply for a student card as soon as you have paid the registration fee and have your access to the Ugla inner web. You will only need one card throughout your studies.

You apply for your student card in your Ugla (My Ugla - Student cards) but you must first decide if you want the card to give you access to buildings beyond regular opening hours. Keep in mind that the type can not be changed on the card after it has been issued. A card without access is free of charge but the card with access costs 1500 ISK.

Student card with access

Many students prefer to have additional access to University buildings in order to use computer labs, reading rooms and other facilities outside normal opening hours.

Opening hours with an access card is 7:30 a.m. - 12 midnight every day of the week. All access cards give access to the University Centre (Háskólatorg) and it's connected buildings, and users can in addition pick VR-II, Askja, Læknagarður or Stakkahlíð.

During exam periods, access card hours are extended until 2 a.m.

Card renewal

On the back of the card there is a sticker with it's expiration date. At the University Centre service desk as well as at The Schoold of Education Office of Academic and Student Affairs in Stakkahlíð you can present an expired student card and get a sticker with a new expiration date. The renewal is without charge.

What can I do if...

The student card is your ID card within the university and the photo must reflect that role. If your photo was rejected you will have to re-apply for the card with a new photo.

The photo must be a clear portrait and the form will allow you to cut the photo so that it will show just your face. Objects such as food, drinks and logos/brandnames are not allowed on your student ID photo. There can also be technical difficulties where the photo isn't processed by the system (it comes out blank or sideways) in which case a member of staff must reject it so that you can upload a new photo.

Start by going into your ugla an checking your card application status. If the photo was rejected you get an automatic email to your university email account.

If your application was approved you get an automatic email once the card is ready. Cards can be picked up at the University Centre Service Desk.

You can request to have a card without access mailed to your address by replying to the email notifying you that the card is ready.

Please contact the Universty Centre Service Desk and let them know which building you were trying to acccess and at what time it failed.
