Access to the University Gym is ISK 12.000 for the academic year. Students and staff of the university can buy access at the University Centre Service Desk. All open sessions in the hall are included as well as the fitness suite and sauna. There is not a physical membership card, you can just log in at the entrance.

Employees who have signed at least a 50% employment contract with the University can sign a transport agreement and get free access to the University Gym.

University Gym timetable: spring 2024

Opening hours:

Mondays - Thursdays: 7 a.m. - 10 p.m.
Fridays:  7 a.m. - 8 p.m.
Saturdays: 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.

The gym is closed during public holidays, such as Christmas and Easter, as well as for 6 weeks over the summer.

The University Gym at Sæmundargata is only open to students and staff at the University of Iceland

Yes, you can rent the gymnasium for group sports during opening hours.

Rent for 45 minutes:

  • 3000 ISK between 7 am and 4 pm on weekdays
  • 4000 ISK after 4 pm and on weekends

The building is old and regrettably not well equipped for wheelchair users. There is no elevator and the doorsteps are quite high.

Gym memberships are sold for the academic year. In the fall semester you can only buy access for the whole academic year. Exchange students staying only one semester are exempted however and can buy access for just the fall semester for 6.000 ISK. Access for the spring semester can be bought separately from January on.
