Initial evaluation to determine salary group
All academic staff are evaluated according to the Evaluation System for Public Higher Education Institutions. An initial evaluation is done at the beginning of employment and after that academic staff may submit an annual report of their academic work. Points resulting from the initial evaluation are used to determine the salary group of the person concerned.
For initial evaluation you need to provide information on material and work that may be evaluated for points, based on the evaluation rules. Generally, a CV with a list of publications is sufficient. The information shall be sent to framtal@hi.is.
The main evaluation categories are:
- Research: Publications based on research, such as theses, books, book chapters and articles as well as being the editor of such material is evaluated. Also, presentations at academic conferences and meetings are evaluated. More research classes can be found in the evaluation rules.
- Teaching: Teaching experience, teaching material, and theses supervision.
- Administration within universities is evaluated.
- Service: Publications, mediation, and work based on academic expertise, not evaluated in other categories.
- Previous employment: Work experience not evaluated in other categories that is in the employee´s discipline and relevant to the teaching or research position.
Frequently asked questions
Points for work experience are generally given for professional occupations after receiving a master’s degree. Points are not given for supervised work, for example post-doc positions.
Points are given for giving a presentation at conferences. When evaluating it is assumed that the first author presented, if nothing else is stated. A supervisor can receive points for a student´s presentation if he is a co-author.
Points are given for full teaching as adjunct lecturer, lecturer, senior lecturer, or professor. Also, for being a sessional teacher with supervision of courses. The evaluation system does not award points for other types of teaching.
The thesis must be completed. Points for BS/BA supervision are given for theses completed 2020 and later.
The initial evaluation looks at the previous year and before. Current year´s work and publications must be submitted in the next yearly evaluation.
